Yeap. Another trip to Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood. We didn’t have anyone “new” with us this time so we skipped the “museum” part and got really lazy upstairs for a few hours.

This was supposed to be a 3 day trek, but the snow melt-off forecast models were wrong!

Up above 4,000 feet there was still some snow on the peaks. As much as 3 feet.

In the Mt Hood National Forest wilderness areas you are instructed to fill out a permit when entering any wilderness area between May and October. But what to do if the permit box has run out of permits?

Yesterday (October 1st 2013) was the very first day of the New Mountain Express bus route, it also just happened that yesterday morning was the first big snow on Mt Hood for the season, so I took a little road trip in the afternoon mainly to get a feel for the new bus route and see what kinds of park and trail access it will provide for future activities.

Wildcat Creek Road is the western most and the easiest way to access to the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness directly from Highway 26 (Mt Hood Highway), compared to the Boulder Trail farther east which is moderate difficulty, and the Hunchback Mountain Trail even farther east which is very difficult.
